Importance of Female Leadership in a Muslim Society

Female leadership has been vital to the development of the Muslim society. Women play an important role in promoting the society and social goals. Another great muslim leader was Khadijah (RA). She was a really accurate representation of the meaning of her name which is something along the lines of: bravery, courage, strength, passion, dedication, love, leader, and most prominent for most, sacrifice. Khadija was one of history’s most remarkable women.

She was the best of the noble ladies of her time, the most beautiful among them, the most elegant, and the nicest in mannerism.  She had inherited all the virtues and qualities of her ancestors. She was blessed with a sharp intellect, enlightened mind, and a broad perspective. Sayyidah Sakina (R.A.) was of strong of character, steadfast, patient in facing crises, and she never gave up to despair. Her mother, Rabab, nicknamed her Sakina because she was a source of peace. She was renowned for her poetic and literary taste as she was one of the eloquent woman of Quraysh and Banu Hashmim.  She was very generous and always shared whatever she had with others.

Lineage of Sayyida Sakina Bint Al Hussain

Sakina was the daughter of Hussain ibn Ali. She was born in the fourth decade from the time of the prophets migration. Her mother was Al-Rabab from the Banu Kalb tribe. She was named after her grandmother Aminah bint Wahb, the mother of the prophet. However her mother called her Sakina when she realized that people experienced tranquility and affinity in her presence because of her kind and generous soul and her cheerful and light-hearted nature. The meaning of Sakina is tranquility in English.

Sayyadha Sakina grew up in the spaciousness of the prophets home, the home of the prophet’s grandson, Al Hussain ibn Al Ali. She was very close to her father, who found tranquility and peace of mind in her company, such that she would clear and rid his mind from worries and make him feel at peace. Sayyidah Sakina was blessed with a unique personality shaped and formed by having been raised in a house filled with sacred knowledge and virtuous deeds. When she reached womanhood, she became one of the respectable ladies of the Quraysh society and earned a high reputation owing to her outstanding qualities such as graciousness, knowledge and good character. Moreover, she was one of the female Successors who had memorised and narrated the hadith of Allah’s Messenger (SAW).
