Sakina was the daughter of Hussain ibn Ali. She was born in the fourth decade from the time of the prophets migration. Her mother was Al-Rabab from the Banu Kalb tribe. She was named after her grandmother Aminah bint Wahb, the mother of the prophet. However her mother called her Sakina when she realized that people experienced tranquility and affinity in her presence because of her kind and generous soul and her cheerful and light-hearted nature.
